On June 13, BTS Bay Area board member Cynthia Calvillo made her UFC flyweight debut as the main event vs. Jessica Eye. Eye was the current #1 contender in the division leading up to the fight. Cynthia went on to win by unanimous decision and establish herself as a top contender in her new division.
Calvillo’s wrestling prowess was on full display; taking down Eye in four out of the five rounds, and amassing close to eight minutes of ground control time over the duration of the fight. Cynthia’s character displays all of the attributes that we look to instill in our Beat the Streets students, hard work, resilience, determination, and discipline just to name a few. Her dominance in the fight was largely due to the skills she has developed as an adult in wrestling. We are extremely excited to have her working with us at the Board level as well as a guest speaker during our summer program.
Congrats again to Cynthia on a great performance!
